Russell Young: Dirty Pretty Things Exhibition
Scream Gallery presents works from internationally acclaimed celebrity screenprinter, artist and Warholite Russell Young, who works some sparkly magic with his so-called ‘Diamond Dust’ prints, a mysterious sparkling powder used to trademark his portraits and evident in his latest collection entitled “Dirty Pretty Things.”
Young has immortalized the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood and Kurt Cobain in his work. The glittering surfaces of his pieces thinly mask an inherent dark side to each work, apparent in canvases such as those which portray the scene of Kurt Cobain’s suicide and the moment when heiress-turned-bank robber Patty Hearst was caught on camera.
As well photographing legendary musicians including Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Morrissey, Young directed 100 music videos during MTV’s golden age.
A haunting yet mesmerizing collection of works, this is one not to be missed.
